			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Once you&#8217;ve decided you need an innovation programme, one of the things you&#8217;ll be spending quite a bit of time doing is hiring the people you need to create new stuff.</p>
<p>Regrettably, many innovation leaders don&#8217;t always get this right. The reason is that it is tempting to hire people who seem like great innovators, but who are actually poor at converting ideas into products and services that can actually drive a business forward.</p>
<p>Research suggests there are some key failure-inducing individuals you can watch out for. Here are the main ones you&#8217;d be better off avoiding:</p>
<p>The Gadgeteer. A gadget is a deceptively dangerous thing for an innovator. On the one hand, it seems the new thing (if only it could be sold correctly to stakeholders) would be a fantastic addition to the innovation portfolio. But on the other, there is practically no way to tie whatever-it-is back to any business problem.This is the hallmark of the gadgeteer &#8211; a pursuit of new things without any conceptualisation of what business problem is being solved.</p>
<p>The Cowboy. Such individuals are very, very committed to their innovations, so much so that no blockage can stand in their way. They go after what is needed to make the new thing happen, and they do so with gusto. Unfortunately, they also do it without much thought as to what will happen after they&#8217;ve rammed the innovation down everyone&#8217;s throats. If the cowboys are lucky,they&#8217;ll at least get their current innovation out the door and into the hands of customers. But in doing so they will have locked themselves out of being able to do the next round of innovation. Cowboys are aware that they are burning influence to make things happen, but their focus is so much on the now that they don&#8217;t permit themselves to consider how they will deliver the next innovation, or the one after that.</p>
<p>The Defeatist. If you got to choose the kind of bad innovator you hired by mistake, you&#8217;d want the defeatist. The only danger that comes from having a defeatist innovator is that you have to carry the headcount without getting any return. The reason? The defeatist will look at any new thing and be so overwhelmed by navigating the organisation to get success they are unable to do anything at all. These are the individuals whose first response to any innovation is &#8216;that&#8217;s too innovative for us&#8217;. The problem of course, is that the defeatist doesn&#8217;t have the right amount of influence to get what-ever-it-is accepted, and for some reason is unable to admit it.</p>
<p>The Consultant. The opposite of Gadgeteers, Consultant-Innovators spend all their time focussing on the business problem. They concentrate so hard on defining it they never get to a solution. Consultant-Innovators spend all their time generating reports and requirements documents, and very little on defining innovative responses.</p>
<p>The Talker. Although he or she will be a great presenter, able to fire up an audience with excitement, as well as a superior networker who can get a meeting with anyone, you&#8217;ll not get much innovation out of this type of person. The reason is they say a lot and do very little. Execution is not the hallmark of the Talker.</p>
<p>The Lone Ranger. This innovator doesn&#8217;t work in teams. He or she will prefer to have every detail of a new innovation under their individual control. Their thought is that only they can be trusted to make the innovation work, and they&#8217;ll engage in significant individual heroics to make things happen. Usually, though, they won&#8217;t deliver very much because innovation most often requires team work.</p>
<p>The moment you notice signs of these terrible innovators in your organisation, you should take steps. If they can&#8217;t be removed altogether, sideline them somehow, because they will reduce the effectiveness of your innovation programme significantly. Even better, don&#8217;t have them join you in the first place.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I think creativity is indeed thinking up new concepts/things. Innovation is making this new concept/thing practical in a novel way. Creativity is dreaming up a new invention and innovation is making it real in ones own unique way. When you bring something new into existence you can say you created it. You cannot say you innovated it. And again when you improve something that already exists you cannot say you created it but you can say you innovated it.</p>
<p>Henry Ford created the assembly line for car production. The Japanese perfected this concept by introducing their own unique innovations/changes/improvements. Lots of people are creative but they are not innovate enough to make their creations practical. Innovation makes creativity practical and efficient. Most inventors fail because they are not innovative enough. Most painters are creative but when they introduce innovation in their creation/art they become artists. Without creativity there is no product/concept that needs implementation and once something new is thought up it needs innovation. Research and development is about innovation. Sometimes innovation can lead to a realization of the creation being impractical and so this new creative idea may be abandoned and a new creative idea may be born thus innovation may lead to creativity. Innovation is giving a new direction to an existing idea.</p>
<p>There is confusion and fuzziness between creativity and innovation because indeed innovation is about creating new ways to implement the existing/created concept. Thus they both have creativity in them. Innovation also involves elements of creativity.</p>
<p>All PhD courses are for researching innovative ways of doing the old stuff in better and more efficient ways. Innovation is about solving existing problems. At a deeper level innovation is research. At the research institutes they are creating better and better innovations for existing solutions. One does not require a PhD for creativity but for innovation at the cutting edge highest level a PhD is almost an essential requirement. In fact at the university level innovation is preferred over creativity. For any newly created ideas are doubted till they can be scientifically defined, measured and tested and this involves complex and time consuming investigations not to mention finances. However anything that is already in use and has proved its utility then any improvement through innovation is accepted whole heartedly. My own invention, &#8216;Vacuum power generators&#8217; is based on a sound principle that, &#8216;nature abhors a vacuum&#8217;; however it was rejected at the highest levels of the US government because of another sound principle &#8216;The law of conservation of energy&#8217;. The law of conservation of energy says that the energy you put in will give back less due to friction. But in nature there are exceptions to this law! Hydrolic pressure, fulcrum power all give back more energy then they take in. And vacuum power is the fulcrum of wind power. But it is an unproven and too radical an idea and also requires tons of money to make a proto type. On the other hand my little innovation of tweaking a little improvement in the baby milk bottle I was able to sell right away.</p>
<p>Creativity is essential for innovation for a product must exist at least in a concept stage for you cannot innovate anything that does not exist. Thus innovation depends on creativity while creativity does not depend on innovation. Though the better success of creativity depends on innovation.</p>

<p>There are other organizations who believe in innovation<br />
strategies which heavily depend on setting up and managing<br />
arrangements, special relationships or partnerships with their<br />
supplier community. I am not trying to find fault with those<br />
methods, however, my argument is with those who are supposed to<br />
act as the agents of innovative leadership.</p>
<p>What is the purpose of an innovation strategy? We innovate to<br />
take advantage of the opportunities caused by change. For<br />
example, prayer is a strategy we use to cope with our personal<br />
challenges. And &#8220;prayer&#8221;, as philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard so<br />
aptly observed, &#8220;does not change God, but it changes him who<br />
prays.&#8221;</p>
<p>Simply stated, it is not the strategy that changes, it is we who<br />
change as we employ our strategy and use it to encourage,<br />
energize, enlighten and engage ourselves to strive for achieving<br />
its objectives. In a word, our innovation strategies can not be<br />
expected to change the world, our strategy must compel us to<br />
change the ways we think about, react to and perform in the<br />
world.</p>
<p>&#8220;Without change there is no innovation, creativity, or incentive<br />
for improvement. Those who initiate change will have a better<br />
opportunity to manage the change that is inevitable.&#8221;<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Due to hours of service rules for truck drivers, it makes sense for truckers to keep all stops to a minimum. So, if they need to use the restroom, buy fuel, eat, take a shower, get coffee, sleep, send emails, clean the windows, or wash the truck it makes sense to get it all done at one location with one stop or the fewest possible. This has been a bundling bonanza for truck stops catering to the drivers, and most travel and truck centers have all that and more, including a general or convenience store. Okay so, let&#8217;s talk about this, and the challenges of a single location &#8220;truck wash&#8221; shall we?</p>
<p>Now then, one of the best places you can advertise and market would be at a truck and travel center, and you should choose the truck stops on any major routes leading by your business, within a 250 &#8211; 300 mile radius. Some truck stops do have truck washes on their property, or across the street. If this happens it might be difficult to advertise your truck wash at those locations.</p>
<p>However, often there are competing truck stops across the freeway from each other, one with a truck wash, and one without. The one without may wish to help you advertise to make up for the fact that they don&#8217;t have a wash on the property as their nearest competitor does. Likewise, overall, most truck stops don&#8217;t have a wash, and therefore you are not in competition with them, and therefore you should ask them if you can put up your flyers, business cards, or leave newsletters in their break room.</p>
<p>Indeed, I can remember one time I was at a truck stop in my mobile command center, and some cute gals came up to me and they asked me if I needed my truck cleaned, then they handed me a flyer, and on the back of the flyer was a map of exactly how to get to the truck cleaning facility. I smiled, because as a businessperson I knew exactly what they were doing, and I thought that the owner of the truck cleaning company was quite wise to send cute gals to the truck stop to hand out flyers, and invite truck owners and truck drivers to their location.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, in my case it was in the opposite direction in which I was traveling, but I must have kept that flyer for six months. When I came back through the area again, I actually did stop there and get my truck cleaned. It&#8217;s amazing what you can do to increase the volume and number of trucks coming through your automated truck wash if you will just use a little bit of grassroots marketing, and think about how you can sell to truck drivers while they are parked. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.</p>
